Crypto and the dating game: The New Dating Phenomenon
Does Crypto Make You More Desirable?
A recent study suggests that including the word “Crypto” to your dating profile, makes you more desirable to the opposite sex. However, there’s a growing concern in the crypto community about online dating.
Cryptocurrency has become one of the top trending topics in the last few years. In fact, crypto has now become part of everyday discussion, and it is no surprise that the word crypto is finding itself in dating profiles and discussion.
A recent study has shown that mentioning crypto as part of their dating profile may bring some much-needed attention.
According to the research done by brokerage firm eToro, 33% of Americans surveyed would go on a date with someone with a crypto tag on their profile. Of the 2,000 people surveyed 25% women and 40% men mentioned that they are more likely to date a person with crypto written in their bio.
Crypto: The game of love
Callie Cox, the US investment analyst at eToro, had this to say “We talked a lot about identity in the survey and how this has a strong place in the crypto community. The genesis of this campaign was to better understand how people think of big life projects and finding that perfect partner,” said Cox.
There was a lot of dynamism between attraction and crypto in the survey. Cox pointed out that the most notable finding was that 33% of Americans surveyed would go on a date with someone with a crypto tag on their profile. “This shows there is a connection between money, love and identity when people look for a partner on a dating app,” she remarked. In addition, she added that nearly 75% of the respondents mentioned that they would go on a second date with a person who paid for their first date using BTC. “We also wanted to test the environment to see how people felt about using crypto as a currency. We were surprised to see this percentage so high, which also speaks to identity.”
Although these findings show that the public is receptive to crypto holders, Cox mentioned that the people that took part in the survey were generally Millennials and Gen Z respondents. “Everyone had to self-identify and most of the respondents were from the younger generation,” she said. Regarding using crypto as a currency, Cox further mentioned that eToro’s findings show that paying a bill in Bitcoin is of greater interest to men than to women.
