Tezos To Sponsor Training Kit Of Soccer Team
Tezos recently announced a sponsorship deal with UK soccer team Manchester United. The deal is for the team’s training kit which will amount to more than $27 million per year.
According to The Athletic, the Blockchain platform secured the multiplayer deal after a series of negotiations. Tezos had to beat several other competitions to secure the deal.
Manchester United’s previous training kit sponsorship agreement with A on, will end in June 2022. The current deal was worth £120 million over 8 years (that’s around £15million each year). The new deal with Tezos means the company will be paying 33% more than the previous deal.
Tezos has been venturing into numerous sponsorship deals in the last few years. It had previously secured deals with Major League Baseball New York Mets, Formula b1’s McLaren Racing. But the deal with the Premier League club remains one of the largest deals the Blockchain company has locked, owing to the fact that the soccer club has one of the biggest fan bases in the world. Manchester United is seen as one of the biggest brands in world football along with Real Madrid, PSG, Barcelona, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Arsenal.
In the last few years sponsorship deals between cryptocurrency firms and sports teams has increased. The likes of Crypto.com and FTX have been scoring numerous partnerships with sports teams in recent months.
Sports and crypto are finding common grounds. There are sports teams with their own tokens, others with NFT projects and so on. It is only a matter of team before major sports teams and individuals adopt cryptocurrency and Blockchain technology on a full scale.
